Life might seem a little out of sorts at the moment, with lockdown meaning none of us can socialise, go out or see one another. The days of the week might roll into one and we have forgotten what it’s like to get dressed up and meet up with friends.
But for those who don’t know, the last May bank holiday is just around the corner, with Monday May 25th being a day off for most of us.
Even though we can’t make grand plans to meet up with family, go on a trip away or spend all day in a cocktail bar in Waterloo, this doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the occasion!
One of our favourite ways to celebrate a (hopefully) sunny day off in isolation is to set up a mini bar in the garden, crank up the music, and set the barbecue going. If you close your eyes, you might just imagine you’re on a beach somewhere hot!
Even though you’ll just be in your back yard, we find a refreshing cocktail can lift spirits during this strange time. For a delicious summer drink, we love whipping up a fruity punch, whether your tipple of choice is Sangria or Pimms. For a slightly different alternative, why not make a pink grapefruit punch which has plenty of zing to balance out the fruity sweetness?
If you want to celebrate the long weekend, bubbly is a must, but you can make yours more exciting for the spring bank holiday by adding some frozen strawberries to your Champagne or prosecco.
Gin cocktails are also very popular at the moment and, better still, they are very easy to make. We love a Bramble, flavoured with sugar syrup, lemon juice, crème de mure and topped with berries. This short cocktail celebrates the best of an English summer, so is ideal for lazing in your garden this bank holiday!
