We’ve all been thoroughly enjoying our at-home cocktails during quarantine over the last few months and no doubt you’ve picked up all sorts of mixologist skills since March, which we’d love to hear about when you come and see us when we reopen on July 4th.
But there are all sorts of tricks of the trade that you might not yet be familiar with but which are certainly worth knowing if you do have plans to continue making lots of drinks at home.
Making your own sugar syrup is incredibly easy, for example, but you might not have considered doing it. All you need to do is heat equal parts sugar and water together until the sugar dissolves, then keep it in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to a month. You can extend the life of your syrup if you throw a splash of vodka in there.
Take this idea to the next level by using fresh herbs in the fridge to flavour your syrup, so you have a range of different options for cocktails.
If you want to really serve up a professional cocktail, you’ll need perfect ice cubes – and there’s nothing better than a crystal clear cube. All you need to do to achieve this is to boil some water, let it cool, boil it again and then pour it into trays and freeze immediately.
Something else to try, if you’re feeling brave and fire safe, is flaming an orange peel. This releases the oils in the peel, adding some delicious flavours and aromas to your drink.
